How to Dress Like an Italian Woman on Holiday

Is a summer holiday to Italy on your bucket list? If so, we’ll need to do a little prep work to make sure you fit in with the natives.

Italian women are just as stylish on the beach as they are in the city, which means every outfit is carefully selected to create a chic summer signature style, whether it’s for beach lounge cocktails, seaside dinners, or boating excursions.

Sicily

Planning a trip to Sicily means hot summer days, cool evening breezes, breathtaking beaches and stylish Italian women gracefully walking through picturesque seaside towns.

What to pack

Italian women like to stay cool by wearing loose white summer dresses or coloured kaftans with a fitted cardigan for the cooler evenings. A small, colourful bag, like the Siena Mini Satchel or the Micro Mini Crossbody, are all you need for those evening strolls and gelato tastings.

Accessories

Stick to delicate gold or silver jewellery to keep the look light and minimal. Choose your favourite pair of tan sandals or flats to complete the look, and of course, don’t forget a large summer hat. The bigger the better!

Puglia

A refined yet simple elegance is key in Puglia, where centuries-old olive groves and whitewashed hill towns, meet hundreds of kilometres of Mediterranean coastline.

What to pack

Don’t be fooled by the neutral colours of this region, the cities are vibrant and the people colourful. So don’t be afraid to dip into many different hues of your favourite colour. Accessories should be kept neutral though, you want to avoid clashing with any prints or patterns.

Accessories

Complete your outfit with the Bella Mini Bucket, oversized earrings and, a colourful pair of shades. You’ll look effortlessly stylish while exploring Ostuni during the day, or enjoying dinner overlooking the sea from Polignano a Mare, at sunset.

Sardegna

The island of Sardegna boasts beautiful turquoise waters, fine sandy beaches and, a rich heritage worth exploring. Some of its beaches are world famous for their pink sand made of fragments of coral and seashells that wash ashore.

What to pack

The key colour to wear here is any gradient of pink, red or coral, paired with the essential summer colour: white and nautical navy. If you’re exploring the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) by boat, you’ll need a silk scarf or head wrap because it can get quite windy. Chic stripes are always a good idea, but don’t just stop at navy and white striped tees; scarves, dresses, shorts, in any colour stripe will look like you just stepped off Valentino’s yacht!

Accessories

To complete the look, don’t forget to wear an Amalfi Midi Ruched Tote on your arm and a pair of cobalt blue flats on your feet when you alight for dinner.

Amalfi

The Amalfi Coast is all about sheer cliffs and a rugged shoreline dotted with small pebbled beaches and pastel-coloured fishing villages. The warm coloured cliffs and multicoloured towns of the Amalfi Coast call for stylish outfits with earth tones, oranges and yellows. White linen paired with rusty oranges, warm beige and light browns are a way to maintain the harmony with your surroundings.

If you don’t have a pair of the traditional Positano leather sandals, make sure you get one - or two pairs - while you’re there. In the meantime, you can add a touch of elegance by wearing our newest Livia ballet flats in saddle. Add a Mini Crossbody Clutch in orange for a Mediterranean pop of colour, and never, ever forget to bring a wide selection of stylish bathing suits! My favourites are from Marysia, an LA based designer.

If a trip to Italy just isn’t on the cards right now, don’t despair. For an Italian memento, I suggest buying a set of prints from my friend, and talented photographer, Ana Linares (you can find her on Instagram @ananewyork). Her photos of Italy are beautiful and have the power of transporting you here, without the jet lag!
